This past Saturday, Maddy + Austin exchanged marriage vows in a God-honouring ceremony under a beautiful arbor in the garden of Austin’s family home.
Some people might say this wedding was a long time coming, since Austin + Maddy have been together for 11 years. But the timing of this next step was exactly right for these two, who have built their relationship on the solid foundation of their longstanding friendship and their deep faith.
Everyone who played a role in their wedding day, from their attendants (their nearest and dearest friends), to the officiant (Austin’s mom Gwen’s long-time friend Kathy), to the florist (Gwen’s friend Barb), to the special music (courtesy Austin’s brother Zac’s partner Casey), was connected to the couple or their parents. This was a celebration not just of the love between Austin + Maddy, but of the love they and all those around them share.
As Casey played and sang, Maddy walked down a beautiful gravel path lined with lavender and buckets of baby’s breath on the arm of her dad Colin. In Celtic tradition, Kathy tied a cord of three strands around their hands, symbolizing the binding together of their lives. The three cords, she said, represent Maddy, Austin, and Jesus Christ.
After family and bridal party portraits on Peter + Gwen’s stunning property, it was time to celebrate! During the speeches, Maddy + Austin were surprised when Gwen read a note from Maddy to Austin, written years ago, which Gwen found in Austin’s pants pocket and had the foresight to tuck away. It read, in part, “Hi, Austin, do you like me? LOL.” A definite highlight of the day!
